Zimbabwe bodybuilder and fitness expert Francois Joey Nyashanu is revelling in the two medals which he scooped at the Arnold Classic Africa multi-sport festival in Johannesburg, South Africa last month.

The awards, which are held annually, are sponsored by former Austrian body builder Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Nyashanu came first in the Arnold’s Classic Model Search Division category and took the fourth position in the Classic Body Building category.

He qualified for the Marume Classic (2022) in the Men’s Fitness Open, which booked him a seat to participate at the Arnold Classic Africa festival.

Speaking to the Standard Sports soon after his arrival from South Africa yesterday, Nyashanu said he was ecstatic about the awards that he has always aspired to get since 2016 when he joined bodybuilding.

“I am glad that I won at an International show after spending years of training so that I qualify to go and participate. And look at me now I have come back home with awards including a gold medal from that festival,” he said.

He was also awarded together with other athletes free entry for the next Arnold Classic Africa multi-sport festival.

Nyashanu, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources from Bindura University of Science and Technology, bemoaned lack of funding in their sport in Zimbabwe.

“Bodybuilding is an expensive sport which needs to be sponsored because if you do a survey you find out that there is a lot of talent in the ghetto which we are losing because of lack of funds. Government should chip in and handle our sport, this will even reduce cases of drug abuse as the youths will be concentrating on the sport.

He attended the festival in South Africa with two other Zimbabweans, female bodybuilder Noma Phiri and Aaron Musarurwa.
