By Grant Moyo More wins on the trot, pushing the envelope for her 20 year-old self — but, is she bankable? Yes! Just like the most buzzed coevals of afoot composers and vocalists — soul-stirring multitudes with tender-hearted yet thought-provoking evocative ballads driven by a typical sultry communicative mode — Tyler Page is notching up timeless to the point grooves wholly eclipsing boundaries. Roared on by an ever growing fan base fain tethering her sniff of glory beyond doubt.
Setting the tone with puffed up tunes and shiny lyrics utterly unleashing her career on the front foot, the early-blooming South African alt-pop gem — whose humongous amount of showmanship debuted to critical acclaim — is reinventing the wheel, broadening her horizon with yet another spanking red-hot single called ‘If It Wasn’t 4u’.
Amicable and fabulous, last year, Page who attained her galactic happy chance in 2020 through her clear-cut vocal and ukulele covers, inked an exclusive contract with Warner Music South Africa (WMSA) — an associate of Warner Music Group — which changed over to Warner Music Africa in May, this twelvemonth. Transcending alt-pop circles with the world being her oyster, in South Africa, the dynamic ‘Capetonian’ songstress became the first pop artist in the 2022 period of time with two songs on the Top 10 Nightly Chart of 5FM.
As her smash hit ‘WAGMI’ — a code for ‘We Are All Gonna Make It’ —catapulted its way up locking the top spot, respectively, Page’s other banger titled ‘Teenage Werewolf’ — which erstwhile climbed to number 1 — secured number 9.
About as angelic as it gets, being her first major single since signing with the latter global record label, the attention-getting pop record ‘WAGMI’ — which is a parting to the summer — found its means onto umpteen playlists, including the cover of Spotify’s Salt. Tying the piece together, prior to officially delivering the visual communication for ‘WAGMI’ — Page’s post on video-focused social networking service Tik Tok featuring her live rendition of the latter sound, spawned over 12 million views.
Speaking magnitude to how aristocratic the vocalist is, in adopting her blood-and-guts attempt to lay to blueprint and convey attention to cryptic detail.

Jetting off, with a competitive drive that never leaves her, Page’s up-to-the-minute sound ‘If It Wasn’t 4u’ — a homage to the one who makes you better — is a collaborative endeavour with Bad Future producer Paul Gala. Taking a closer peep at this supersonic haunting piece of music with Asian-inspired synth as well as the cosmopolitan messaging of being ransomed — for starters, adding a bit of spice to it clearly grants this celestial melody straightaway planetary status.
“If It Wasn’t 4u’ is a song of immense gratitude for that one person — a lover, a family member, a friend or for God — who has changed your life completely for the better, so much so that it saves your life. Sometimes it’s very painful to be changed, like a tree that has to be pruned to carry better fruit. This song is about the tough experiences that take place to ultimately shape and save us through tough love,” Page said.
The spic-and-span record start out with a half-hardy and exotic bowed stringed instrument motif out of the blue, set off by a monolithic trap beat and doughy droning bass. These juxtaposing opposites arouse a mighty inflammation in the listener. Page’s tranquilizing voice cascades and semivowel over the dark yet hearty instrumentation — haunting and consoling at the same time.
What is more, the ditty diagnoses the act of being saved by someone, a context or deity; the mechanics of said rescue, all the same, are accomplished by trimming one’s shortcomings to make one entire and ‘perfect’. Life, the bonny beast that it is, offers points in time where happenings seem on the face of it — tragic at the time, yet, in hindsight make one better and stronger. So then, ‘If It Wasn’t 4u’ pays homage to the mortal, event, or spiritual being that alleviates such transformation.
Risking it all to achieve the impossible, Page has definitely gotten hefty. Trusting her instincts is the pinnacle of adding up the alt-pop vocalist’s intuition overdrive — giving her so much satisfaction to brew more lovely slices of auditory sensation using so many specific ways preceding the radar. Filling up the big flash posed by a phenomenal amount of guts — whatever Page does, she pursues it 100%!
