A Harare man is facing fraud charges after he misrepresented himself as a Zimplats agent to dupe unsuspecting clients.
Munyaradzi Matanhare (39) was released on US$ 150 bail when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi on Friday.
Prosecutors alleged that sometime in May 2023, Matanhare approached the complainant Simon Magama and misrepresented to him that he had a contract with Zimplats to supply kitchen hardware.
Magama transferred 298 000 rands into Matanhire’s bank account.
On June 7, 2023, Magama transferred another ZAR 430 000 into the same account.
Matanhare failed to reimburse Magama after he failed to deliver the kitchen hardware

The complainant engaged Matanhare on several occasions, but without success.
It is established that Matanhare had no contract with Zimplats.
Magama later made a police report after being duped of 728 000 rands.
