Police on Friday shot two suspected armed robbers in Masvingo in yet another incident where suspects are shot while in the custody of law enforcement agents after allegedly trying to run away during indications.
Police spokesperson assistant commissioner Paul Nyathi yesterday said Pharoah Moyo Chidyanavarungu (27) and David Mkosana (30) were “shot on the legs after they fled the scene in different directions”.
Nyathi said Chidyanavarungu was admitted at Masvingo General Hospital. They had been arrested alongside Terrence Mpofu (21) and Genious Washaya (31) in connection with a spate of armed robberies committed between December 2023 and January this year.
“Detectives from CID Masvingo acted on received information leading to the arrest of David Mkosana, who was hiding at a house in Damofalls, New Stands in Gweru,” Nyathi said
“The suspect also assisted the detectives to lure his accomplices, Pharoah Moyo Chidyanavarungu, Terrence Mpofu and Genious Washaya, to a supermarket in Kwekwe where they were subsequently arrested.”
The police recovered a laptop, an open view decoder and a cellphone.

The four suspects are also assisting police investigations into four armed robbery cases which include a robbery case, which occurred on December 14, 2023 at a house at Victoria Range, Masvingo.
Nyathi said the four suspects who were armed with an okapi knife, iron bars, catapult and a screwdriver, broke into a house and attacked two victims before taking U$$1 500 cash and four cellphones.
In another case which occurred at Clapsham View, Masvingo on January 8 this year, they allegedly broke into a house and attacked two victims before stealing two cell phones, an HP laptop, two satchels, 2 litres Jameson whisky, 750 milliliters Jake Daniels, one litre John Walker double black, white power bank and 16 X 20 litres diesel coupons and went away.
Police’s handing of armed robbery cases has come under the spotlight in recent months after suspects were shot during indications.
