THE Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has sought permission from the Local Government ministry to recruit 500 workers to improve service delivery.
Deputy mayor Mlandu Ncube said recruitment was necessary because staff shortage was seriously affecting service delivery, especially at council clinics.
“At the moment we are below half in terms of staff and it is now affecting service delivery. We made a request to the Ministry of Local Government to give us permission to recruit staff, but we haven’t got a response yet,” Ncube said.
“Residents have a hard time getting services and it is making them angry and making them go to faraway places to acquire different services.”
The staff shortage has been felt at, for instance, Magwegwe Clinic where residents are not being adequately served due to a shortage of nurses.
“We are forced to queue for several hours waiting for attention because of a shortage of nurses,” a Magwegwe resident Felix Ncube said.
