Through stand-up comedy, a pair of Harare comedians managed to portray the challenges being faced by tenants and landlords in their day-to-day living last week in Masvingo at Charles Austin Theatre.
The Two Comedians Looking for Accommodation standup comedy left people of Masvingo yearning for me.
One of the comedians who is also the organiser Wencelacy ‘Kadem the Comic’ Katuka said they managed to communicate their message to their audience.
“Not only did we manage to portray the struggles of tenants as well as landlords but we managed to make it more relatable to those who were present through local references that were close to the audience,” he said.
“Not only did out theme stand out, but it was filled with so much wit and humor, which left most attendees leave the show crying with laughter.”
Kadem said the Masvingo show was indeed a great success to their anticipation.

“The Masvingo leg of the Two Comedians Looking for Accommodation show tour was a great success. People came in their numbers as our partners on the ground tirelessly pushed the show through pre-show ticket sales,” he said.
“The audience was mostly students, young adults, couples and families including those who were watching comedy for the first time.
“They came and witnessed some great comedy, from our MC Musavadha, Chipenzi Da Comedian and obviously from the Two Comedians Looking for Accommodation.”
A show in Masvingo was something the Comedians needed to do as they already had a fan base in the xity.
“We expected to just come to Masvingo and do the show but we ended up connecting with some of our audiences through tickets deliveries to some of our fans who were buying,” he said.
“There were also unexpected times that we would be moving around town and Mucheke A (Luancha) and people would even recognise who were, confirming that doing a show in Masvingo was actually something we needed to do.
“We experienced a wonderful welcome in Masvingo, with local Radio Stations and local Newspapers showcasing ourselves before the event.
“Our biggest highlight was getting accustomed to the greeting line “Mahkwera sei?”
This made us feel very welcome. It’s not something we are used to everyday hence the fascination it brought.
A lot of people were calling to enquire about the show, which gave us some comfort and triggered our nerves,” Kadem said.
He added that they decided to do the show in Masvingo as it is rich in the arts sector.
“We decided to make Masvingo part of the tour because of its enriched art sector, which has seen the examples of Vharazipi, Mr Candy and Jungle Loco rubbing shoulders with other top artists in the country and doing amazing work,” Kadem said.
“This alone highlights how Masvingo supports their art. This made us want to visit to also showcase the goodness that were cooking and to also interact and partner with local talents and brands from the area.
“These partnerships tend to be mutually beneficial for all parties involved and helps in creating lasting legacies.”
Their next show as they continue with the tour is a show in Mutare in June, and Bulawayo in September.
They are definitely coming back to Masvingo as they managed to liaise with their partners to do another show.
The show was hosted by Sikhanyiso ‘Ckanyiso DatGuy and Wencelacy ‘Kadem the Comic’ Katuka.
