A TSHOLOTSHO man is admitted at Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo after he was attacked by a hippopotamus at a local dam.

The victim has been identified as Nkosilathi Nyathi (50).

Ward 21 councillor, Felix Tshuma, confirmed the incident.

“What I know is that there are hippos at the dam,” he said.

“The challenge is that there is a serious shortage of water and villagers are now sharing water with wild animals resulting in human-wildlife conflicts"

“Our boreholes have dried up.”

Tsholotsho Rural District Council chairperson Rophas Ndlovu said the local authority was assisting the family with medical bills.

Efforts to get a comment from Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) spokesperson Tinashe Farawo were fruitless

Cases of human-wildlife conflict are rising as wild animals invade communities in search of food and water.
