BINGA district disaster management committee has activated its subcommittees to sensitise villagers on disasters likely to happen during this rainy season.
In February 2020, heavy rains, which caused widespread flooding in the district, left a trail of destruction with victims stranded to date.
Binga district disaster risk reduction chairperson, Farai Marinyane, told Southern Eye that sensitisation pertaining to disasters during the coming rainy season is in progress. The disasters include flooding, drowning, hailstorms, lightning, epidemics and zoonotic diseases, among others.
“The District Disaster Risk Reduction/Management committee has activated its subcommittees from village, ward and district levels for the likely disasters that are prone to happen in our communities,” Marinyane said.
He said it was everyone’s responsibility to raise such awareness to save lives.
“Let’s all be our brothers’ keeper,” Marinyane said.
