A BULAWAYO well-wisher is providing meals to children living on the streets in the country’s second largest city, on a weekly basis.

Percy Mpofu cooks the meals at her home and dishes out the food to street children along 9th Avenue between George Silundika Street and Robert Mugabe Way each and every Friday.

Mpofu, who for years used to distribute the food every Sunday has moved the day to Friday.

In an interview with Southern Eye, Mpofu said she express her desire to do more, but financial constraints were limiting her.

“It is my wish to cook for these children more than once a week, but my pockets are not deep enough,” she said.

“These children know that every Friday, Mam’Percy is here to make sure that they are fed. I do it purely out of the goodness of my heart.”

According to the latest Social Welfare statistics, 133 children are living on the streets of Bulawayo and are reported to mostly come from Makokoba, Mbundane, Iminyela, Trenance and Cowdray Park.
