A 10-year-old girl committed suicide in Bulawayo by hanging herself at her home, police have confirmed.
Reasons for the suicide by the Grade 4 pupil at Godlwayo Primary School in Pumula South have not yet been established.
Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said the police were investigating the case.
“On October 16 at 5pm, the child's uncle (18) left her with her two year-old cousin at home whilst he went to see his friends,” Msebele said.
“He then returned home, after some time to collect his jacket and heard the two year-old cousin crying in the bedroom.
"Upon opening the door he discovered the body of the now deceased hanging from a roof truss.

“She used a rope to hang herself and had also used a black plastic chair, an empty white 20 litres container to climb and reach the roof truss.”
Msebele said the uncle then alerted their neighbours and the police.
“We encourage parents to always monitor their children and listen to them so as to detect early and take action if there are any problems to avoid such incidents,” Msebele said.- MPUMELELO MOYO
