A 24-year-old man from Gokwe North killed his biological father after accusing him of witchcraft.
Tinevimbo Nyika from Kufazvinei village in Chief Chireya’s area was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in jail at the Gokwe High Court circuit where he was facing murder charges.
According to court records, Nyika and his late father aged 69 were home with other family members on November 18 last year when a dispute arose over witchcraft claims.
Nyika accused his father of bewitching one of his brothers. He struck his father on the left knee and head using a metal rod.
His father managed to break free and flee, but Nyijka gave chase.
Nyika caught up with him, and struck him on the head again before assaulting him several times all over the body using a metal rod, leading to his death.
