A NON-GOVERNMENTAL organisation Amalima Loko has introduced technical courses targeting rural youths in Matabeleland North province and aimed at empowering them with skills for their economic development.
Amalima Loko communications officer Keith Moyo told Southern Eye that the programme started in September last year.
Moyo said they offered courses in welding, bakery and carpentry.
“The aim around the youth skills training is to empower them with marketable skills and create employment that will eventually equate to sustainable livelihood,” Moyo said.
He said the programme was critical as it empowers individuals while contributing to the growth of their communities.
“The duration of the course is two months and two weeks. Practical training is only for two weeks and the two months are for attachment,” he said.

Moyo said the participants only pay US$40 once-off which caters for their accommodation and food.
“The aim of the organisation is to improve the livelihood of communities through capacitance with income-generating skills. In the process of doing, so this programme pivots towards reducing youth unemployment,” he said.
Moyo said the long-term programme’s aim was to improve the lives of youths in Matabeleland North.
“The programme is to provide development within the rural communities in Matabeleland North so that the youth are able to be entrepreneurs and this will uplift their communities,” he said.
