A self-proclaimed traditional healer from Matabeleland South’s Plumtree area allegedly kidnapped an ailing 17-year-old girl before demanding 10 000 rand ransom for her release.
The matter came to light at the Plumtree magistrates courts last week where Sikhathele Dube (51) appeared before magistrate Joshua Nembaware facing charges of kidnapping.
Prosecutor Selestine Madziwa alleged that at an unknown date between April and October 1 last year in Plumtree, Dube was staying with the complainant's 17 year-old daughter on account of illness.
After the young girl’s health improved, Dube refused to release the minor into the custody of her parents. He later demanded 10 000 rand for him to release her.
Her parents reported the matter ton police leading to his arrest Selestine Madziwa prosecuted. Dube was remanded out of custody to October 21.
