The Bulawayo City Council is working hard to reduce the housing backlog with residents receiving their allocated land, ward 16 councillor Greater Gumede has said.
Speaking during the commissioning of 141 serviced stands in Luveve North on Friday last week, Gumede said the housing waiting list has been reduced significantly.
He said the new residential stands had assisted the council’s efforts in reducing the huge numbers on the waiting list.
“I am happy today because the commissioning of these stands shows that those who have been on the waiting list are slowly but surely getting their stands. It shows the waiting list is getting reduced,” she said.
“This new development has really helped Bulawayo a lot because we know that 141 people have been removed from the waiting list.”
The Bulawayo City, in partnership with Natwecraft Investments Private Limited, completed servicing of the first phase of the Luveve North residential stands recently.

Out of 453 stands in the first phase of the project, 141 fully serviced stands were commissioned on Friday last week.
The project, which started in July last year, completed servicing of the stands with a 2,25km road work, 1km outfall sewer, 2,58km internal sewer reticulation and 2,83km water reticulation.
In an interview, Netwecraft director Nkululeko Moyo said the project cost US$1,3 million to complete.
“The stands are being sold at US$11 000 which includes costs of electricity, sewer, road infrastructure and water,” he said.
