Nkayi traditional leader, Chief Mbusi Dakamela has said the Dakamela concept of development promotion has been able to bring change after honouring individuals for their hard work and also in efforts to resuscitate culture within his community.
In an interview on Saturday Chief Dakamela said the concept was initiated in 2022 as a way to celebrate individuals’ achievements, while they are still living and also to bring the community together.
It is always held in April.
“One of the groups called Isizwe Sakithi, which was awarded a prize, is now constructing a classroom block in Dakamela. This has been great as through the concept we have been able to show appreciation for hard work and it has made people to work hard for the development of their community,” Chief Dakamela said.
He said through the concept, people within his community had realised that they were responsible for the development of their community instead of waiting for donations.
“The concept is always held in Dakamela and it has given us an opportunity to advertise our community as it is graced by people from different places within Zimbabwe and Africa. The concept has brought the conversation of development to Nkayi,” he said.

Chief Dakamela said they were appealing to responsible authorities for funds for the rehabilitation of the Bulawayo-Nkayi Road.
He said the road’s bad state had deterred some people from gracing the occasion as they feared that their vehicles would be damaged.
“We appeal to the responsible authority to rehabilitate the road so that people are able to attend the concept. Roads are a first phase of development as they allow free movement and easy access to resources,” Chief Dakamela said.
He said the concept had been instrumental in preserving culture and bringing unity and development.
