NKAYI SOUTH legislator Jabulani Hadebe has lamented uneven food distribution in his constituency, accusing the government of targeting only the elderly at the expense of other vulnerable members of the society.
Hadebe told Southern Eye that it was unfortunate that the food relief programme does not cater for everyone, yet the entire constituency is being affected by drought
“Government is prioritising the elderly only because the food is not enough for everyone, but we all have been affected by drought,” he said.
The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) depots in Bulawayo and Kwekwe have maize, according to Hadebe, but the roads to transport the food are not in a good condition.
“We have been told that Bulawayo and Kwekwe GMB depots have maize, but the problem is that the Bulawayo-Nkayi Road is heavily damaged and they (authorities) are unable to transport the food,” he said.
Hadebe mentioned that the district was also experiencing water challenges as some dam walls had developed cracks due to neglect.

“Once dams are fixed, our livestock will benefit from them,” he said.
“We are now being forced to fetch water from unprotected sources. The boreholes around are not enough as well, making life difficult for us.”
