A LUPANE family has sent an SOS to raise money to buy a wheelchair for its eight-year old child who has a backbone challenge.
Bonginkosi Tshongwe from Esigabeni Segcono in Matabeleland North province has been suffering from the ailment since he was four months old, his mother Sanele Mathe said.
“Tshongwe was born without any disabilities or diseases, but when he was four months old, my son started to have this problem. At the time, we had begun to train him how to sit but he could not,” she said.
“I went to Mpilo Hospital many times for exercises and checkups but the situation did not change. Tshongwe only eats soft food because he is not able to chew. We have to feed, bathe and clothe him.”
She said her son was also not able to talk. “He is not able to walk which makes it hard for him to go to the restroom. He puts on diapers, but they are expensive for us.”
His father, Simosezwe, said: “We once went to the social welfare to ask for assistance but they could not assist us. We are in need of a wheelchair.”
