A MAN from Mazwide village in Fort Rixon, Matabeleland South province, has appeared in court for allegedly assaulting his wife for refusing to borrow a chicken from a neighbour.
Mvinyelwa Sibanda (39) pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa last week and was remanded in custody to October 18.
The complainant in the case is his wife, Bethile Sibanda.
The State alleged that on July 15 at around 9pm, Sibanda came home from the bar, ordered his wife to borrow a chicken from a neighbour, but she refused because it was late at night.
Sibanda allegedly started assaulting his wife. The court was told that Sibanda’s daughter rescued her mother from further assault.
Sibanda, in his defence, accused his wife of assaulting him first and also grabbing him by his private parts.
