Hwange residents have petitioned the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) over the emission of hazardous substances in Ingagula township by the Hwange Power Station.
The petition signed by Greater Whange Residents Trust coordinator Fidelis Chima was directed to EMA Hwange office.
"We write to inquire if your office had been regularly monitoring and regulating the discharge or emission of pollutants or hazardous substances into Ingagula township from the power station in line with section 9 of the Environmental Management Act (2002) which provides for the establishment of the EMA), whose duties in accordance with the law are to formulate quality standards on air, water, soil, noise, vibration, radiation and waste Management and monitor and regulate discharge or emission of pollutants or hazardous substances into the environment," reads the petition.
"We also request that you furnish us with the results of the air ambient tests from your office."
