MTHWAKAZI Republic Party (MRP) leader, Mqondisi Moyo, has been dethroned after being accused of using hate speech among other charges as divisions rock the secessionist movement.
An interim structure led by co-chairpersons Thembisani Mpofu and Chilumbo Mudenda has been tasked to organise an elective congress next year.
Moyo is accused of abuse of office, lacking respect and integrity in handling party affairs.
Interim party spokesperson Mbonisi Gumbo said they held a meeting on Sunday and an interim structure was put in place following Moyo’s ouster.
“The national interim committee will strive to repair the party's image and reputation that has been damaged by years of mismanagement, unprovoked public insults of prominent Matabeleland individuals and organisations as well as hegemony," Gumbo said.
“We trust that the disunity and mistrust in the party may be a thing of the past. Hate speech and slander especially in the public domain should stop.

“Let it be categorically clear that Moyo and other members were not fired. They are still MRP members but they no longer have the mandate to continue to act as they did in their previous capacities unless they are re - elected at congress.”
Contacted for comment, Moyo described his removal as null and void, claiming that there was a plot to hijack the party.
“The meeting (held on Sunday) served as an information and update meeting following the disorder created by some members of the party in the past days,” Moyo said. “However, members are determined to protect the revolution and the gains of the MRP.”
The MRP was founded in 2014.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa previously warned the MRP leadership against pushing a secessionist agenda.
