A BULAWAYO man has been arrested for concealing the death of his six-year-old daughter after she was reportedly abused by her stepmother who is now on the run.
Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said David Zhou (47) from Northend middle-density suburb lied about the cause of his daughter’s death to protect his wife, Priscilla Muchape (33).
“The now deceased and her elder sister, an eight-year-old, were staying with their father and stepmother,” Ncube said.
“On May 26, the deceased and her sister were awakened by Muchape during the night to go to the toilet. The deceased refused to wake up and this angered their stepmother who assaulted her with open hands, kicked her stomach and pushed her against the wall.”
He said the deceased screamed and collapsed.
“They tried to render first aid to no avail,” Ncube said.

“They then ferried her to United Bulawayo Hospitals where upon arrival the father lied that she was an epileptic patient who suffered from severe fits, collapsed and hit her head against the wall under severe seizure of fits.”
Ncube said a post-mortem done on May 29 showed that the cause of her death was unnatural because the child suffered brain injury.
He said the deceased had multiple injuries, fresh cuts on the left ear, legs, feet and a swollen head.
“Members of the public are warned not to cover up for crimes no matter how good the relationship is. We appeal to members of the public with information that may lead to the arrest of the accused person to come forward,’’ Ncube said.
