THE Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations (ZHOCD) has established a Manicaland chapter, with the body declaring its commitment to peace-building initiatives across the country.
The announcement was made by Edward Tswamuno, the newly-appointed ZHOCD Manicaland chairperson during the launch of the Manicaland structures in Mutare yesterday.
ZHOCD Manicaland operates across five districts and includes various church groups such as the Zimbabwe Council of Churches, the Union for the Development of Apostolic Churches in Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference, Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe and the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace.
“This is, indeed, a new chapter because the church plays an influential role in participating in developmental initiatives that uplifts our well-being,” Tswamuno stated.
He said the collaboration among different denominations aimed to improve the economic and social conditions of the people.
“As churches from various denominations, we have joined hands to enhance the economic and social well-being of our people,” Tswamuno said.

“The church plays a significant role in complementing government programmes to develop communities. We will also pray for our country to find lasting solutions to the various challenges it is facing.”
Trevor Masuku, the secretary-general of the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe, echoed Tswamuno’s sentiments, highlighting the vital role churches play in promoting peace.
“As churches, we should work hard and pray for the fruits that will make us a great country,” Masuku said.
“We will continue to pray for Zimbabwe to sustain peace, unity, and improve the well-being of the people.”
The launch of the ZHOCD Manicaland structures marks a significant step towards fostering collaboration between faith-based organisations and government to address pressing social and economic issues in Zimbabwe.
