A MAN from Inyathi has been sentenced to 20 years in jail for raping his girlfriend’s elderly 80-year-old mother.
The man (39) appeared at the Rusape Magistrates Court, where it was heard that he went to the girlfriend’s place of residence and asked to see her.
The mother, who is the complainant in the case, responded that she was not there and this angered him.
The court heard that the man then assaulted his girlfriend’s mother.
He banged her head against the wall several times.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the man ordered the old woman to touch his manhood before he made her lie facing down and raped her.
“The accused person’s girlfriend and her brother heard their mother scream and rushed to the scene where they found the accused person holding a stick,” the NPAZ said.
The woman then revealed the assault and rape before a report was made to the police, leading to his arrest.
