POLICE have released the names of the other five of 16 people who perished in an accident in Beatrice last Friday.
Sixteen people who were on their way to a church gathering in Chivhu perished when a Harare-bound haulage truck rear-ended a VW Polo and veered into the lane of oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter commuter omnibus that had 44 passengers on board.
In a statement yesterday, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the five were Tafadzwa Godgiven Nyandoro (six months), Edson Banga (49), Kudzai Lista Banga (28) and Dylance Benjamin Masondo (11), all of Epworth as well as Takunda Katiyo (22) of Old Mabvuku in Harare.
Nyathi also released the names of two of the three people who died when a Honda Fit vehicle with two passengers on board hit a pedestrian, resulting in the car veering off the road and ramming into a tree.
The pedestrian, driver and a passenger died on the spot, while another passenger sustained injuries and was rushed to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital.
Nyathi identified the two as Gumisai Kandime (32) and Tapfumanei Chisango (36), all of Ushewekunze, Harare.
