Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) MP for Sunningdale, Maureen Kademaunga walked free after the National Prosecuting Authority withdrew charges of attempted murder and malicious damage to property against her.

The NPA said there was not enough evidence to charge her.

Kademaunga was arrested on Tuesday along with fellow opposition members Clayd Mashozhera and Daudi Jessub.

“We have been here since morning and the prosecutor general has looked at the papers and come to a conclusion that there is no iota of evidence leading Kademaunga to the alleged crime (and) to that end she has been cleared,” Kademaunga’s lawyer Harrrison Nkomo told journalists.

An earlier police statement suggested that the trio was implicated in a violent attack near Metro Peech in Sunningdale, where a vehicle was also burnt to ashes, on August 23.

The opposition CCC slammed her arrest as a sign of “heightened repression” and said the charges were fabricated.
