FORMER journalist Joseph Katete appeared yesterday at the Harare Magistrates Court facing a charge of murder.
He allegedly killed his 17-year-old relative.
Katete (42) appeared before magistrate Munashe Chibanda, who remanded him in custody.
The magistrate advised him to apply for bail at the High Court, and also ordered the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services to have him mentally examined.
According to the State, Katete was at their residence in New Mabvuku waiting for Maxwell Katete to ferry him to hospital for an appointment with a doctor for his bipolar disorder condition.
It is alleged that Fally Salaudi, who is a church elder, arrived at the house intending to pray for Katete.

When Salaudi opened the door, she allegedly saw Katete sitting on top of the deceased, who was covered with a blanket.
The State alleges that the church elder asked Katete to stand up, but he became violent, threatening to kill her.
Salaudi then raised alarm.
When Maxwell also arrived on the scene, they discovered that the victim had died.
