POLICE in Hwedza, Mashonaland East province, have launched a manhunt for a 49-year-old man who allegedly killed his mother early this week accusing her of bewitching and killing his father five years ago.
Everisto Magaisa of Chibaya village is on the run after killing Faustina Magaisa (83) in cold blood.
Acting provincial police spokesperson assistant Inspector Misheck Denhere confirmed the incident.
“I confirm a murder case that occurred in Hwedza in which the suspect allegedly killed his mother. The suspect is still at large and we are appealing to anyone who might have information that may lead to his arrest to report to the nearest police station. We are also appealing to the public not to resort to violence in settling disputes,” he said.
It is reported that on Wednesday this week, the suspect approached her mother who was clearing a path to a nearby river where she fetches water. He then accused her of using witchcraft to kill his father in 2017 before severely assaulting her with an unknown object.
Magaisa’s body was taken to Mt St Marys Hospital for post-mortem.
