The Bulawayo City Council has requested the Postal and Telecommunications Authority (Potraz) to provide internet services at its forgotten city libraries
“The director of housing and community services reported on March 9, 2023 that the Bulawayo Municipal Library Service (BMLS) requested permission to partner with Potraz to provide affordable internet services to library users through the Community Information Centres (CICs) Programme,” a council report reads.
Potraz has been setting up CICs in small towns and rural areas across the country, providing internet services.
Council said its libraries needed internet services.
“The benefits of partnering with Potraz were that the programme was inclusive in approach and it would assist the council narrow the information and digital divide currently experienced,” council said.
Potraz has been tapping into the Universal Services Fund (USF) to set up CICs.
