CHIEF Nhlamba (75) of Garanyemba in Gwanda died on Saturday on admission to the United Bulawayo Hospital (UBH) following a long illness.
He had been admitted to Gwanda Provincial Hospital before his condition deteriorated and was rushed to UBH on Friday.
Born Dennis Ndlovu, Chief Nhlamba was one of the senior traditional leaders in Matabeleland South province.
Confirming the death yesterday, Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs minister Abednico Ncube said: “We are grieved by the loss of our chief, who was also my relative. We never thought he was going to leave us so soon. I wasn’t aware that his condition was critical. His death will not affect the Nhlamba family only, but the whole of Gwanda district.”
Chief Nhlamba was installed by government on July 16, 2010.
