CHITUNGWIZA-BASED artist Stephen Pindura believes optimism is the faith that directed him to his achievement at the recently held Mitupo exhibition.
The little known Pindura is a surrealist charcoal pencil artist who defied the odds ahead of prominent artists as he bagged the Best Creative Response award on his maiden exhibition.
For his efforts, Pindura was awarded a one-day DK Tours and Safaris Trip to Victoria Falls.
Born and raised in Murewa where he attended Kambarami Secondary School, Pindura said he pursued his interest in drawing which he later polished up through accepting and utilising meaningful criticism.
“My award-winning art was the lion artwork. In the realm of African savannas, the lions reign as the apex and keystone predator, epitomising the essence of regal power and grace. So, because of that it captured my artistic eye to bring out the fierceness of the lioness,” he said.
“I thank Chitungwiza Publicity for giving me this exposure and platform to showcase my works. This was my first exhibition and it has already opened opportunities for me as a start-up young artist and I am grateful for that.

“I take this as a stepping stone and I would like to take part in more exhibitions where I will gain more experience and interact with other artists.”
Pindura said he was charmed by the brave character of the lion, adding that to a greater extent he spent his time trying to perfect drawings on different postures that lions take.
In the process, he has managed to play around several shading, sketching and colouring techniques using a charcoal pencil.
“I still dream of expanding my education through enrolling at a local or international reputable institution where I would exchange knowledge with other prominent artists in the industry. This will open up another chapter in my life while I look for new opportunities to emerge,” he said.
Pindura is a devout Christian who enjoys every moment of praise and worship at the United Family International Church Basilica in Chitungwiza.
