BY WINSTONE ANTONIO LOCAL arts promotion company Infinity Sky Entertainment is proving to be the showbiz giant as it flexes its financial muscle to bring into the country international artistes for live concerts.
In its latest offering, Nigerian Afro pop and R&B singer Joeboy will jet into the country at the weekend.
The singer will be hosted at Borrowdale Racecourse in Harare on Sunday barely a month after Infinity flew in South African music duo, Major League for a successful concert.
This will be the Don’t Call Me Back hitmaker’s maiden performance in Zimbabwe.
The show was initially scheduled for December 21 last year, but it was postponed to Independence Day eve (April 17) due to COVID- 19-related issues.
In a statement, concert spokesperson Collin “Kodza” Manyore said Joeboy was expected to touch down at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport on April 17 in the morning ahead of the show night.
“Our guest artiste Joeboy will be connecting from Zambia where he is also on tour. The objective of the show is to celebrate African talent and promote unity,” he said. “Bearing in mind that COVID-19 is still in our midst, all COVID-19 protocols will be observed at the show.”
At the potentially explosive concert, Joeboy, born Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, will share the stage with some of the country’s top musicians among them Jah Prayzah and hip-hop rappers Takura and King 98.

A scrutiny of Joeboy’s career shows that he started under Mr Eazi’s emPawa Africa initiative in 2017 after getting the attention of the revered artiste from an Instagram video covering Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You.
Mr Eazi eventually encouraged the then 21-year-old to sign up to the #emPawa100, a funding and mentorship programme, which helped Joeboy to produce his first video for his single Fààji.
Prior to his signing with emPawa, Joeboy was studying for a degree in human resources management at the University of Lagos. Joeboy says singing in church with his brother as he grew up was an experience which will have a lasting impact on his career.
Joeboy’s exploits in the music industry has not gone unnoticed.
In 2019, he won the Best Artiste in African Pop gong at the All-Africa Music Awards and Best Pop at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival.
He was also nominated for multiple City People Entertainment Awards and The Headies.
