Police Friday gave the green light for the MDC-T to hold its star rally to be addressed by the party leader, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, Saturday at Zimbabwe Grounds in Highfield.

Harare police provincial spokesperson Inspector James Sabau confirmed the police had sanctioned the rally. “We have sanctioned the rally and it is going on,” Sabau said.

MDC-T spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora confirmed the rally was on. “The rally is going on. We have been cleared by police. As you might know, there is a standing agreement that no MDC meetings will be banned,” he said.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has on several occasions denied the two MDCs permission to conduct rallies.

Today’s rally will be the first in the party’s countrywide mission to meet it’s grassroots.
