UMAA Group of Colleges founder and director Cleopas Kundiona has joined the race for the Marondera Central seat which fell vacant this month following the expulsion of former MP and Zanu PF provincial chairman Ray Kaukonde.

Kundiona joins two other Zanu PF aspiring candidates eyeing the seat. These are Jerry Gotora and Lawrence Katsiru.
The UMAA boss said his campaign team was already on the campaign trail with the first rallies held last weekend.
“It’s a seat that needs someone with hands on. I am a candidate for the party as we will be going into the primary elections. I would want to see Marondera people being well educated,” Kundiona said.
“As a party, we have lots of people-oriented policies and I feel people should be educated on those policies. Zanu PF has a task of explaining its policies to the people,” he said.
“I painted the war veterans’ offices, I will put sofas and a carpet to make them comfortable. I have a plan to register them with the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education on short courses. Some are farmers and they need skills. I want to advocate that I want them to be educated, education has no age, I don’t want the community to see them as nothing,” he said.

“People here want a leader who is not in a hurry to go back to Harare. They come here and grab power, then go back to Harare, people don’t like such leaders.”
Gotora and Katsiru could not be reached for comment to disclose their campaign strategies.
Meanwhile, Chikomba East legislator and Zanu PF central committee member Edgar Mbwembwe yesterday confirmed that he would contest for the party’s Mashonaland East provincial chairmanship this month-end.
“I am ready to surrender the central committee seat. This is what is at hand, if the people and the party are calling for me to contest for the chairmanship post, who am I to deny?” Mbwembwe said.
“Once I surrender the central committee post, it means it is now vacant, and If I miraculously lose the provincial elections, I won’t be hurt because this is what I have decided.”
Mbwembwe will fight it out with interim chairperson Aeneas Chigwedere and his deputy Joel Biggie Matiza for the same post.
