Zimbabwe is commemorating its 45th years of independence from colonial rule on the 18th of April. After a military coup in 2017, Emmerson Mnangagwa became president ousted Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe’s long-time leader, who had held the position since the country’s independence in 1980.
There was an ill-treatment for human rights violations during Mugabe’s regime and Mnangagwa had promised the citizens that he would put that system to an end that he would put the citizens choices first.
When Mnangangwa came to power, him and his government have utterly failed to stop abuses of human rights.
Under President Mnangagwa’s administration, there has been social and economic instability, a breakdown of the rule of law, and a disregard for human rights.
Recently journalist Alpha Media Holdings' journalist Blessed Mhlanga was unlawfully arrested without bail for literally interviewing a war veteran, who had said that, “President Mnangangwa should step down from power”.
An excellent illustration of what happens when a party abuses its position and continues to rule the nation.
Hence Mnangagwa and his government are ruling with a dictatorship mind and its very evident with the high rate of human rights activist and citizens of Zimbabwe who are being tortured for speaking against the government be it online even doing peaceful protest is a crime in Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe lacks democracy, since Mnangangwa’s corrupt administration silences citizens’ voices. Therefore, no cause for celebration on Zimbabwe’s Independence Day.
