FORMER Vice-President Simon Muzenda’s company, Chekesai Goods Transport (Pvt) Limited, has been fined $200 for selling fuel without a valid licence.

The firm, represented by Vitalis Vengesai Muzenda (61), had initially denied the charge before provincial magistrate Tendai Mahwe ordered the company to pay a $200 fine for the offence.
The court heard that on March 7 this year, an informant from the Zimbabwe Republic Police approached the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) telling them that Murefu Service Station, located along Simon Mazorodze Road in Waterfalls, Harare, was selling fuel without a licence.
When Zera officials visited the premises, Muzenda failed to produce a licence, leading to his arrest.
Meanwhile, Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere’s fuel company, COMOIL (Pvt) Limited, is set to appear in court facing a similar charge.
COMOIL is represented by its marketing manager, Isaac Ndlovu. The State alleges on March 3 this year, Zera officials visited the company’s premises in Newlands and discovered that the firm had no licence to sell fuel, leading to Ndlovu’s arrest.
