SOUTH Africa-based gospel musician, Togarepi Chivaviro, will tonight perform at his former Methodist Church in Zimbabwe (MCZ) during the 40th Autonomy Anniversary fundraising event to be held at Cresta Lodge in Harare.

Chivaviro left the MCZ six years ago and founded the Assemblies of Pentecostal Methodists (APM) church that has since established branches in a number of countries including Botswana, South Africa and the United Kingdom. However, his musical career was launched within MCZ and he sang his way into the limelight through hymns like Tirimo Munzira.
The Ebenezer hitmaker yesterday confirmed that he will grace MCZ’s function, adding that he was happy to be home.
“To me, the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe is home. That is my mother church. I grew up in the church and received guidance from great servants of the Lord there. So going back to be part of the church’s 40th Autonomy Anniversary fundraising is like just going back to my mother to help cultivate in her fields, it is a family thing,” he said.
“I am grateful to the leadership for giving me an opportunity to give back to my mother church and I promise all who are coming that it will be a night to remember. I have prepared the most favourite hymns from my discography of four hymnal albums, and of course the current hits Ebenezer and Mhepo Inoperekedza,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chivaviro has been nominated twice for this year’s edition of the Permican awards, in the Best Male Artist and Album of The Year categories.
Last year, he won three accolades at the same awards following the release of the hit song Ebenezer.
