HIGHLY-acclaimed children’s arts group, Chipawo is currently preparing for its annual Christmas show titled Mary Christmas.
BY ARTS REPORTER
The group’s manager, Chipo Bhasopo, yesterday said preparations were at an advanced stage and all children were welcome.
Bhasopo said the show was meant to be an early Christmas present to all the children, where they would meet and tell stories in an African context.
“The show is open to all children from four years old. We have started preparations and children have been creating their plays and registration has been going on in preparation for rehearsals, which will commence soon and the final show will be on December 17,” she said.
“For Chipawo, presenting plays in the Zimbabwean context is a very important responsibility, which avoids children from acquainting themselves with foreign storytelling and models, but, instead, relating to national and international events like Christmas in their own languages and in the context of their own lives.”
The show was meant to present a Christmas experience in a Zimbabwean context with African idioms.
She said people should expect a breathtaking experience of the play, meant to take the audience through an imagination of who Mary is in the 21st century, looking at how much the girl child is going through and how the society should appreciate children this Christmas.
