The groundbreaking ceremony will be held on February 12 this year, proprietor and prominent businessman, Raj Modi, said.
“All is now set for the ground breaking ceremony on February 12. We were supposed to have done it earlier, but we have been delayed by the rains, as the ground is soft, we expect to create more than 1 000 jobs for locals. I think this will be the biggest mall here in Bulawayo since it covers 9000 square metres, though I am not sure about Bulawayo Centre.
It will also have a big supermarket, which will cover 4 000 square metres and the remainder will be reserved for 11 line shops,” he said.
“We will do it in phases, and we expect the project to take one year with the supermarket set to be finished before the end of the year. I have already been approached by some people, who want to invest in the shopping mall in the form of pharmacies and banks. Our aim is to reduce customers’ walking distances for services.”
Modi said he will also drill three boreholes in anticipation of possible water shortages.
However, Modi lamented the state of roads in Cowdray Park, since the area is inaccessible due to poor infrastructure.

“We are in talks with council, something must be done with the state of the roads before the ground breaking ceremony,” he said.
The councillor for the area, Collet Ndlovu confirmed the development.
“The council awarded a tender to Modi, and the groundbreaking ceremony is set for early next month,” he said.
