THE Ministry of Health and Child Care has appointed former Mashonaland East provincial administrator, Cuthbert Ndarukwa as Marondera Provincial Hospital board chairperson.

The hospital becomes the first in the province to operate with a board and Health minister David Parirenyatwa is expected to appoint another board at Murewa Hospital this month.
Marondera Hospital medical superintendent Selestino Dhege could neither deny nor confirm the appointment of Ndarukwa, saying he would ask the latter to address the media.
“I am not in a position to talk to the media but what I can say is that Mr Ndarukwa will address the media on Tuesday, that is when we are going to have a meeting,” Dhege said.
Ndarukwa joined the local government sector in 1977 and served in various capacities before he became a district administrator in 1992 and subsequently provincial administrator for Mashonaland East in 2006 until his retirement last year.
The setting up of the board follows an examination scandal that rocked the Marondera Hospital School of Nursing early this year.
A board of inquiry was established to investigate massive failure of students at the school of nursing after only 36% of them made it compared to a 100% pass rate recorded in previous final examinations.

Out of the 19 students who sat for the examinations, only four passed.
However, the massive failure was attributed to high levels of incompetency, according to findings of a report by the board of enquiry.
This resulted in the acting senior tutor being relieved of her duties and recommended to undergo proper training at another school of nursing.
