This is the second time that Mhosva’s project, in which she taught the Doma girls in the Zambezi Valley to make reusable sanitary pads, has scored big after it helped her qualify for the recently held Miss World semi-finals when it was selected in the top 20 of the 112 projects presented at the global pageant.

Mhosva beat fellow models Yollanda Chimbarami and Rumbidzai Chigama to the award at a colourful event at which several individuals and organisations were honoured in recognition of their contributions towards the growth and development of the modelling and fashion industry.

Awards founder, Mercy Mushaninga told NewsDay that despite the economic challenges, they are dedicated to honouring those who excel in their careers.

“Fashion and modelling is a rewarding profession that needs to be taken seriously as it can sustain livelihoods that is why we take it upon ourselves to recognise those making it big in the sector alongside other stakeholders who support the industry,” she said.

The event, however, experienced some hiccups, which saw it being delayed by almost two hours, forcing some of the guests to leave before the end.

Meanwhile, fashion designer, Thembani Mubochwa showcased some of his collections to be launched early next year.

Other winners at the eve of the night are Mary Mundeya as the Most Talented Female model, Sindiso Ndlovu as the Most Educated Female Model, Nancy Dzviti, Best Entrepreneur Valerie Chingonzo, Best Plus Size Hayley Ann Carstens and Amanda Fynn as Most Curvy Model. Hilda Mabu scooped the Best Commercial Model, while the Most Beautiful Female award went to Nikita Levelandale.

Top Model Zimbabwe was adjudged the Best Modelling Agency.

In the male category, Bulawayo-based Shadel Noble won the Best Runway award, while television personality Arthur Evans scooped two gongs for Best Promotional Model and Best Voice Over.

Former ZBC Kidznet presenter, who is now based in United Kingdom Timothy Hogo, scooped the Best Trendsetter award.

Among those honoured in the Special Award category included NewsDay’s Arts and lifestyle reporter, Winstone Antonio, musician Jah Prayzah, Miss Zimbabwe Trust, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and Big Time Strategic Group.
