AWARD-WINNING theatre and film producer, Thandiwe Mawungwa, has broken new ground with her recent production, a thriller movie titled Mind Games, which earned her the Best Zimbabwean Feature Film and Best Actor awards at the joint Zimbabwe International Film Festival and International Film Festival last year.

Mawungwa co-produced the film with her husband, Charles, who is also a reputable film maker.
“I am really excited about the recent achievements the film has made locally and abroad,” Mawungwa said.
“The film keeps surprising me, as it keeps getting the necessary attention it deserves when international festivals keep acknowledging our efforts.”
Mind Games recently won another accolade, the Best Narrative Feature Award at the Calcutta International Cult Film Festival in New York.
“I have found my footing when it comes to film production even though I still love the theatre industry, film is more interesting and more appealing to a wider audience,” Mawungwa said.
After having started her career in theatre, Mawungwa has written, directed and produced plays for theatre, schools and various organisations in Africa and Europe. Four of her plays have won a total of six awards locally and regionally.

“I love using story telling as a tool for positive socio-economic development in Africa and beyond that way the message really hits home,” she said.
Mawungwa’s past awards include “Most promising script’ at the Ishashalazi Festival in South Africa (2016), Best Costumed play, Dirty Laundry, A family Affair and Best Production, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor awards at Zimbabwe One Act Play Festival (2011) and Best Achievement Award for an outstanding script in The Coin at Zimbabwe One Act Play Festival (2012).
