THE National People’s Party (NPP) has dismissed reports that its leader, Joice Mujuru, was mulling joining the MDC Alliance to give the opposition camp more political stamina following the death of MDC-T leader, Morgan Tsvangirai last week.

NPP secretary-general, Gift Nyandoro yesterday said Mujuru, who heads the People’s Rainbow Coalition, had no intention to join the MDC Alliance.
“For the record the Twitter account being used to post the falsehoods is fictitious and, in any event, NPP is a solid member of People’s Rainbow Coalition in which Mujuru is the chosen presidential candidate for the progressive people’s coalition. Any assertion to the contrary is nothing but lies of the highest order,” he said.
“Above everything else, NPP remains committed to the formation of a genuine and progressive grand coalition that is people driven and not Twitter-negotiated. Such a coalition is not negotiated through fictitious Twitter accounts, but is done through proper democratic channels which respect rules of mutual engagement.”
Mujuru has since September last year been reported to be making manoeuvres to cobble a grand alliance with Tsvangirai’s MDC Alliance partners.
Mujuru’s partners in the PRC include the Lucia Matibenga-led People’s Democratic Party, Zimbabweans United for Democracy led by Farai Mbira and the Democratic Assembly for Restoration and Empowerment leader Gilbert Dzikiti.
The MDC Alliance on the other hand comprises of seven parties — MDC, MCD, PDP, MDC-T, Transform Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe People First and Zanu Ndonga.
