Transport deputy minister Joshua Sacco confirmed the meeting adding that there is need for bus operators to co-exist.

Government through the Transport and Infrastructure Development ministry yesterday engaged bus operators in a development meant to bring sanity at ranks.

This follows clashes between rank marshalls aligned to rival bus operators in Mutare that left several people nursing serious injuries.

Transport deputy minister Joshua Sacco confirmed the meeting adding that there is need for bus operators to co-exist.

"We had a meeting with the police, Vehicle Inspection Department (VID), bus operators and commuter omnibus operators and other transport stakeholders. The main purpose of the meeting was to engage operators around the need for co-existence between them following the skirmishes that took place in Mutare recently," said Sacco.

"It was an initiative by the Ministry to have public transport operators come together. We also discussed issues around compliance and everyone was on the same page. They agreed to work together which is a good development."

Sacco said the government will not hesitate to revoke  operating licenses from errant bus operators in the future.

It was agreed that buses from Mutare load firstly from morning to 12pm in Mutare.

Seven buses operating from Mutare load till 12pm.

"Those coming from Harare to Mutare are then given chance to load from 12pm till late.

The operators who attended the meeting applauded the Ministry for bringing sanity to the transport sector.

Some of the bus operators who attended the meeting include Esau Mupfumi of Gold Class, Shadrack Tiripano of Trip Trans, CAG and Bolt Cutter bus owners.
