The groceries included cooking oil, maize-meal, rice, sugar, salt, peanut butter, beans, fruits, powdered milk, meat, bath soap, washing powder, floor polish, bath towels, cleaning detergents and were valued at more than $3 500.
NSSA general manager James Matiza said for the past two years staff at all NSSA’s regional offices had raised money from their own pockets to assist those in need.
The authority then trebled the amount and presented the money to a deserving organisation. Matiza noted that the residents of the old people’s home and hospital were in the age group that NSSA’s pension fund was intended chiefly to benefit.
