Interestingly, Moyana was expected to perform alongside Sulumani Chimbetu and Jah Prayzah as advertised on the posters that were put across the city as the show’s line up.

Speaking to NewsDay, the dejected Moyana said he was told by Jah Prayzah’s manager Filda Muchabaiwa that his music was not decent enough for family shows.

“When I was about to go on stage, I was told that my music was not suitable for a family show. But how can someone say my music is not appropriate for a family show yet I have a lot of songs that I can sing depending of the nature of the audiences?” Moyana said.

“It is only that my music has been misinterpreted by mischievous people to taint our language and I believe Jah Prayzah’s camp is just trying to block me from sharing the stage with them — of which I have no hard feelings towards him.

“What morals are they talking about concerning my music when they are the same people using my instrumentals on stage?

“This is the same as saying I don’t feed on human flesh, but I only feed on human soup.”

Jah Prayzah’s manager, however, said the move was not personal, but the decision to stop Moyana from performing at the show was because they felt his songs were not morally correct to play at family shows as there would be children present.

“This was a family show and as we seek to maintain our growing brand, we could not allow Moyana to perform today after having been approached by more than five fans who said they had come to the show with their in-laws and pleaded with us to avoid Moyana’s explicit lyrics from spoiling their day,” Muchabaiwa said.

Since the release of his controversial song Munotidako last year, Moyana’s music has been received with mixed views from different people associating it with vulgar connotations, but the musician said dirty minds were jeopardising his music.

“There is nothing menacing about my lyrics and I am not discouraged by what people think about my compositions.

“Their way of interpreting my music proves that they are the ones with dirty minds,” Moyana said.

This is not the first time that Moyana has found himself at the receiving end. Recently, sungura musician Alick Macheso during a presentation of Coca-Cola awards for 2013, blasted the musician for wafting the use of vulgar language into local music.

Moyana is currently back in Harare after joining hands with Sulumani Chimbetu as an opening act for his shows.

Meanwhile, the Sunday show was well-attended with Jah Prayzah and Sulumani putting up a sterling performance while many of Moyana’s fans felt cheated by his failure to perform.

“I had come to specifically see Moyana live on stage, but I was left disappointed by the turnout of events,” one fan said.
