The newly-crowned beauty queen will take over the tourism ambassadorial role from Zimbabwe’s first-ever Carnival Queen, Danai Chipunza, who claimed the title last year.

Visiting Exodus Steel Band from Trindad & Tobago, Zimbabwean musician Pee Kay together with Cindy Munyavi and a host of Zim-dancehall artistes are set to perform tonight.

While Harare will be abuzz with diverse activities taking place at various venues throughout the nine days, it is the carnival street party next week — the hallmark of a carnival — that will seal the festivities.

Jazz lovers tomorrow make a date at Pamuzinda Highway Escape celebrating the diversity that comes attached to jazz music in Zimbabwe with the event being hosted by Josh Hozheri.

The next day all roads lead to Red Fox Hotel in Greendale for the Carnival Exotic Night hosted by Robert Zhuwawo with the Carnival Fashion Show coming on Monday at the First Street Mall.

One of the shows not to miss would be the Samba Night at Airport Lounge featuring 12 Brazilian samba dancers, Beverly Sibanda, Zoey Sifelani and a local brew of samba.

The City of Harare will on Thursday host a welcome reception and share the experiences of our Sunshine City with the participating countries.

The same night will pave way to the Carnival Comedy Night, one of the latest features on the carnival calendar this year.

Slated for Book Café, the event will feature National Arts Merit Awards–winning comedian Simbarashe “Comic King” Kakora alongside Doc Vikela, Q and Gift the Cracker. The closing ceremony on Sunday will see the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) throw the Carnival Music Gig to mark the end to this second edition of this festival.

In an interview with NewsDay, ZTA spokesman Sugar Chagonda said: “This year’s event is promising to be bigger than last year and we are hosing 23 countries up from 16 that participated last year.

“A lot of activities are in place and basically we are ready to showcase our diverse culture,” he said. Zimbabwean cuisine will also be part of the funfair with ZTA having endorsed Paroots Restaurant.
