THE Zimbabwean movie industry will give birth to another baby with the premiere of My Lady on August 21 at Sam Levy’s Ster Kinekor Theatre.

Media, Information and Broadcasting Services deputy minister Supa Mandiwanzira will be the guest speaker at the premiere.
The movie, which was produced and directed by America-based Nick Zemura, is a love story that features an array of both veteran and upcoming actors that include Elijah Madzikatire, Antony Tongai, Lorcadia Kavhai and Fortunate Perezu, among others.
My Lady is about a young man who is left by his girlfriend for an older man who happens to be a competitor in business.
The night he is dumped, he picks up a prostitute who is running away from the police and takes her to his house, sparking the beginning of a relationship that many did not appreciate.

Zemura said this was the first movie he had done in Zimbabwe and had provided him the opportunity to learn about the local movie industry.
“I wanted to do it because I knew it would present to me all the situations to learn about the filmmaking landscape in Zimbabwe,” said Zemura.
“I have been making movies for a while in different countries, but in Zimbabwe I had no clue of where to get permits or even human resources and I am happy that this movie helped me navigate and learn about the local industry.”
Zemura said people should not make assumptions about others by what they see on the outside.
“When we see a lady in a bar we always assume she is of loose morals or when we see a man driving an expensive car we assume he is doing well in life while sometimes it is the opposite,” he said.
“Fans need to come and see the actors and give us feedback, but above all, we intend to put out a show that is fun.”
Zemura has done 16 Nollywood movies working with the likes of Desmond Elliott, Ramsey Noah and Uche Jombo among others.
He has also shot and directed movies in Ghana, Cameroon, Senegal, Liberia, Cote d’ivoire and Sierra Leone.
