THE trial of 24 members of Johane Masowe eChishanu accused of assaulting police officers during a raid at their Budiriro shrine in May this year, failed to kick off yesterday after the defence lawyer said he was not yet ready.

Magistrate Elijah Makomo moved the matter to September 30 at the request of the Vapostori’s lawyer Obey Shava.
The sect members are alleged to have violently attacked police officers, journalists and members of the Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe on May 30 this year when ACCZ leader Bishop Johannes Ndanga announced that the sect had been banned for abuse of women and children’s rights.
This allegedly angered the congregants who immedidately broke into a militant song called Umambo Hwepfumo Neropa before launching a vicious attack on the delegation.
