FOUR of the five suspected robbers who attacked newly-crowned Miss World Zimbabwe Anne-Grace Mutambu and her sister Anesu, robbing them of electronic gadgets appeared in court last Friday facing robbery charges.
Linval Mhene (27), Kennedy Nderema (37), Lyod Chagwedera (31) and Karen Chinaka (23) were remanded in custody to July 21 for trial when they appeared before Harare magistrate Francis Mapfumo.
Chagwedere is employed as a security officer at Chitungwiza Town Council, while his three co-accused are unemployed. Prosecutor Peter Kachirika told the court that on June 26 t around 8pm, the four suspects teamed up with an accomplice who is still on the run and hatched a plan to rob. They allegedly drove around Cranborne in their get-away car, a VW Polo which belonged to Chagwedera.
It is alleged the suspects saw Anne–Grace Mutambo walking with her sister along Shaftesbury Road and trailed them. Nderema and the one still at large allegedly got out of the vehicle and confronted the two women before assaulting them with clenched fists and booted feet before robbing them of a G-Tel phone and HP laptop.
The robbers then sped off in their getaway car, the court heard.
It is alleged that on June 27, the accused sold the phone to one Tizirakunashe Tanyongana in Zengeza 1 for $50 and shared the proceeds. Tanyongana then sold the phone to one Dickson Nyaya.

On July 7, detectives acting on a tip off recovered the phone from Nyaya leading to Tanyongana’s arrest who subsequently led them to Mhene’s house. Mhene led the police to Nderema from whom the laptop was recovered.
