A MAN from Mzilikazi, Bulawayo, has been slapped with one-year jail term after being convicted of having sexual intercourse with a minor, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

Bulawayo magistrate Evia Matura convicted Micheal Ndlovu (27) before sentencing him to jail for a year.

He will serve an effective nine months in jail.

“You have been found guilty as charged. For count one you have been sentenced to six months in jail and three months is suspended for five year on condition of good behaviour, for count two, you are sentenced to three months in jail. For count three you are sentenced to three month imprisonment,” Matura said.

The young girl told the court that she was sent by her mother along with her sister to buy mosquito coil and her sister influenced her to stop at Ndlovu’s house to ask for money.

“Once we reached the house, my sister searched Ndlovu and came out with US$5. Ndlovu then started throwing stones at my sister for her to run away. Ndlovu then asked me to have sexual intercourse with him and I agreed,” she said.

On the first case, the court heard that Ndlovu had sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl and a report was made to the police.

When police tried to arrest him, Ndlovu resisted and manhandled a policeman who tried to apprehend him.

He then ran away from the charge office towards Mzilikazi suburb and was apprehended with the help of the members of the public near Mzilikazi Youth Centre.

On the last count, the court was told that on October 29, Ndlovu assaulted Edson Sibanda (58) with fists twice on the right eye and threatened to stab him with a knife after he refused to leave his house.
